How to get from Heathrow to Gatwick

These are separate airports about 42 miles apart by road. Allow time to leave the arriving aircraft, clear any entry checks, collect luggage and reach your onward flight check-in. Check your airline’s connection and baggage rules before choosing a transfer.

  • Private car: A pre-booked vehicle takes your party and bags between the airports without changing transport. The road journey still depends on traffic, so a tight flight connection remains a risk. Check a fare for your journey.
  • Direct coach: Heathrow lists several direct coach operators serving Gatwick, with indicative journeys around 70–75 minutes. Check the current timetable, terminal stop and ticket terms with the operator. See Heathrow’s inter-airport guide.
  • Train: There is no direct train between Heathrow and Gatwick. Rail journeys involve a change in central London, for example via Farringdon or Victoria. Check the complete connection and luggage needs before travel. Compare Heathrow’s rail routes.

Indicative transport times describe the journey between stops, not the time needed for arrivals, transfers inside the airports, check-in or security. Recheck schedules before departure.

Plan your airport pickup

Enter your scheduled flight arrival date and time in London local time, not an estimated meeting time. Add your flight number so we can monitor changes. Airport arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting from actual landing, with parking during that period included in your quoted fare. We monitor your flight and adjust collection if it lands late, with no extra charge solely for a flight delay. Hotel, home and station pickups include 10 minutes from the booked pickup time. Contact us promptly if immigration or baggage collection takes longer. Extra waiting is arranged in 15-minute blocks: the team will quote the waiting charge and any additional parking separately and obtain your agreement before extending the wait. No extra charge is automatic.

Two airports, two terminal details

Select your Heathrow arrival terminal and the Gatwick terminal for your onward flight. For the reverse journey, use Gatwick as the pickup and the correct Heathrow departure terminal as the destination. Check these details with your airlines rather than relying on a previous trip.

Provide the arriving flight number for monitoring, and explain the onward flight time when discussing the transfer. If either flight changes, contact London Arrival so the booked route and timing can be reviewed.

Driving time is not a safe connection allowance

Heathrow’s official guidance lists the road distance between the airports at approximately 42 miles. This is not a journey-time guarantee. Leave time for passport control where applicable, reclaiming bags, meeting the driver, traffic, check-in and security at the next airport.

Ask your airline about baggage handling and connection requirements, especially when flights are on separate bookings. A private transfer does not protect the onward flight or guarantee that a connection can be made. Discuss a tight itinerary before paying.

Luggage travels with your booked party

Count all passengers and large bags, including luggage you collect between flights. Mention bulky items, child seats or assistance needs in advance. Review the recommended vehicle against the whole party’s requirements rather than selecting only on price.

Keep the arrivals meeting instructions available and contact London Arrival if you cannot locate the driver. Flight monitoring helps with the arrival plan, but a changed flight number still needs to be communicated.

Check the full route before payment

Enter the terminal-to-terminal journey directly. Do not add a Central London stop unless you actually need one. If an overnight hotel is part of the connection, include its address and discuss whether separate journeys are needed. Book online at least 24 hours ahead or ask on WhatsApp about earlier availability.

Questions about heathrow to gatwick transfers

How much is a private Heathrow to Gatwick transfer?

Select the Heathrow pickup terminal and Gatwick destination terminal, then enter your date, time, passengers and luggage. The booking form shows the fare for that journey before payment; a Heathrow to Central London starting fare does not apply to this airport-to-airport route.

Does a private transfer guarantee my connecting flight?

No. Allow time for arrivals formalities, baggage collection, meeting the driver, road traffic and the onward airline’s check-in and security requirements. Discuss a tight connection before paying and check connection rules with your airline.

Can I book Gatwick to Heathrow instead?

Yes. In the booking form, use the swap control to reverse the journey, then select the correct Gatwick pickup terminal and Heathrow destination terminal. Check both flight details and the pickup date and time before payment.

Heathrow pickup areas: Terminal 4 is different

Heathrow does not permit passenger collection on the terminal forecourts. Terminals 2, 3 and 5 have near-terminal Terminal Parking options; the driver will confirm the collection plan for your booking.

Terminal 4’s multi-storey car park closed on 23 June 2026 for redevelopment. Heathrow lists Priority Pick-Up and Park & Ride Zone A as alternatives. Follow the arrangements sent for your journey rather than assuming Terminal 4 uses the same car park as the other terminals.
